Student FAQ

1. How do I apply?
   1. You can apply by hitting the “APPLY NOW” button at the bottom of this page.
2. I’m graduating in the spring of 2021, can I still apply? (Effective only for Summer 2021 cohort)
   1. Yes, please!  We encourage all current undergraduates to apply, even if graduation is closer to some than others. In the past, we have had internships turn into full-time opportunities!
3. What kind of qualities are you looking for in an intern?
   1. We get this question a lot…flexibility, proactiveness and self-motivation are some qualities our company partners look for in an intern.
4. What will my schedule look like?
   1. You will be living that real-world 9-5 grind, you will be expected to work 40 hours a week, but your hours may differ based on your company. Be sure to ask during an interview or in a follow up email.
5. Will I be able to take time off?
   1. While we do not advise taking time off if you know you have planned events (i.e. wedding, family reunions) we encourage you to bring up those potential conflicts to your specific company as soon as possible to talk about flexibility. The federally-recognized holiday during the program is July 4th.
6. How will I get paid?
   1. You will be paid a $4,000 stipend (**International Students will be taxed at the federal rate of 14%.)  The $4,000 will be paid bi-monthly.
7. Where will I live?
   1. Housing is provided by the program, to be announced later in the application process. Please be sure to let us know that in your application.
8. Am I guaranteed an internship?
   1. Great question.  Similar to life, there are no guarantees here. S+S is a continuously competitive program.  This means that we admit more interns than available positions. This is for numerous reasons, but feel this method has given companies and interns the best experience.
9. Will I be working with other interns?
   1. Best answer: potentially.  This is company-specific and depends on what the company’s current needs are. If this is important to you, ask!
10. If I’m an out of state student can I still participate in Speed Interview Night?
    1. Yes, and Speed Interview Night is a mandatory event for all our company partners and vetted students. Speed Interview Night 2021 will be virtual for all vetted students and companies. The S+S team will provide you with everything you need to know well before your interviews.
11. I don’t have a car, how would I get to work?
    1. A lot of our company partners’ office downtown, so we hope it’s a short scooter/walk/bus ride away! If you are a UIW, UTSA, St. Mary’s or SAC student, great news: your student ID allows you to ride VIA for free! For other students, you can purchase a U-Pass. Another way to get around is by carpooling, but please be respectful of the person who is giving you a ride to work!
