Interns with Impact. Drive. Motivation. Superpowers.
Take the headache out of finding talent.
Sometimes a fresh new set of eyes is what you need to push your company to the next level. With Students + Startups, you are given access to our pre-vetted pool of highly qualified candidates. Once you secure an intern, you are only responsible to pay HALF their stipend. The other half is subsidized by the 80|20 Foundation.
That’s just a smart business decision.
My internship at the Heron was an incredible experience. I expected to learn some new skills, but was nervous as to how the summer would go. At every step of the internship, Ben gave me challenging, exciting assignments and projects that helped me learn and refine my own skills. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, Ben was quick to encourage me and validate that reporting is hard work, but his reassurance and help every time I hit a barrier gave me the confidence I needed. I am so glad that I had this experience of working with a team that loves what they do, and is dedicated to their mission. I learned so much over the course of this summer!
The most valuable experience I had was interacting with investors of these startups and watching their investments and commitment to the companies grow. My internship at S+S opened up an entirely different perspective to the startup community.
The interns crushed it…The process is easy, the talent is high-quality and adaptable, and you can’t beat the price! We’ve continued to employ some of the interns over the year and will definitely be hiring more for years to come!

The Students + Startups program was an incredible experience! Not only did my intern add so much value and amaze me with her contributions, she became a resource I plan to continue using outside of the program. The community aspects of the program, such as the events and workshops, were hugely beneficial for me as a small business owner in meeting new, local connections that have already added value to my business.
In our second year in business, Students + Startups took us to the next level of growth. We are huge fans! Where else can you access an incredibly talented pool of pre-vetted applicants, have a chance to connect more deeply with other entrepreneurs and startup companies in San Antonio, AND have subsidized compensation? It was a gamechanger. And we’ve loved our interns so much they have stayed on and worked the following semesters. Can’t wait for S+S 2020!
The most important factors I’ve come to look for in a junior employee are resourcefulness, drive, and grit. (I want real work done, I want to learn something new, and I want her/his energy to be infectious to our team.) The Students+Startups program seems aligned to this ideal perfectly and I would recommend participation to any San Antonio startup – Not only to better their organization but also to play a small part in making our city a better place to work and live as more graduates choose to join our cause.

The other students really made this program amazing. Everyone was inclusive and social. I always felt welcome, eager to explore San Antonio and excited to develop connections with them.
I learned so much more than I thought I would coming into the internship. I got to fully immerse myself in the marketing team at my internship. They mentored me and showed me exactly what I had been wanting to gain experience on. The S+S program itself offered so many resources as well. This made this experience for the summer even better

The S+S program provided me with an invaluable experience that I don’t think I would’ve gotten anywhere else. I was matched with the perfect company and team while learning new skills and knowledge. (The team) always communicated with the cohort via Slack and email and were always quick and attentive when it came to answering any questions or concerns.”
The Students+Startups internship gave me a sneak peak of the growing tech scene taking place on Houston St. My supervisor introduced me to one of the employees of Scaleworks, a venture equity firm that has acquired 7 B2B SaaS companies. And so here I am, 3 months into my first job out of college as a Business Analyst for Scaleworks, Inc, sitting in the heart of the Houston St. tech revolution and I love every moment of it
Who are we looking for?
- Organizations with strong leadership, a positive and inclusive culture, and dynamic roles with a clear trajectory for growth.
- Must be located/headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.
- Diverse industries including tech, retail, food/beverage, robotics, SaaS, biomedicine, sustainability, non-profit and more.
What makes a good experience?
- Instead of coming up with a job description, present a project. Determine what your prospective intern should be interested in and what they should excel at.
- Develop a thoughtful on-boarding process, including an orientation session where you set goals and expectations. Include a 3-5 minute overview of different parts of the company, with a representative from each department.
- Provide a healthy culture and immerse them into the camaraderie of what it takes to work productively and comfortably in an office or at a worksite.
- Have biweekly 1×1 meetings with your intern to discuss progress on projects they’ve been working on, areas of the business that are interesting to them, personal aspirations for growth, and recapping previous goals.
All interns must live in San Antonio during the entire program. If you are remote or hybrid, we ask that you keep an open line of communication.
Ideally, juniors to master students. We accept applications from freshman students, but companies have preferred students to be more along in their studies (around their second and third year).
As we’ve grown, companies are bringing out everything they’ve got to set themselves a part from other company partners. This means pull-up banners, tablecloths, candy, t-shirts, swag, business cards, etc. Use your imagination, and bring your A-game. You are selling your company to them just as much as they are selling themselves to you all.
