Interns with Impact. Drive. Motivation. Superpowers.

TALENT

Take the headache out of finding talent.

Students + Startups saves your company time and money by managing the early vetting process, ensuring all admitted candidates, from every field of study, possess the skills necessary to be internship-ready and the motivation and drive to make an impact on day one. The S+S team supports company partners and candidates throughout the hiring process by making thoughtful connections, matching candidate interests and abilities with relevant internship opportunities at local companies.

Oh, and did we mention that half of the intern’s $6,000 stipend is partially- subsidized by the 80|20 Foundation? You are only responsible for half of each intern’s stipend.

Dura Software

Students + Startups allowed me to build my skill set toolkit, build long lasting relationships, and develop personally and professionally. Additionally, it helped me develop amazing friendships with other students/young professionals who I stay in touch with today. Lastly, S+S allowed me to see the opportunities within the startup world and inspired me to pursue my dreams.

I learned so much more than I thought I would coming into the internship. I got to fully immerse myself in the marketing team at my internship. They mentored me and showed me exactly what I had been wanting to gain experience on. The S+S program itself offered so many resources as well. This made this experience for the summer even better

This being my second year in the program has helped me reach new heights in my career and even given me a part-time job with my company partner.

The Learning Company

The Learning Company was later dissolved about a year after my S+S internship, but the connections I made within Geekdom were so valuable later on in my career. I really really appreciated the collaborative nature of Geekdom and the ability for us to connect not only with our own startup but all the other startups too!

Students + Startups showed me what it meant to be a professional, working within a small team didn’t allow me to hide, or float in the background. For me and all of my peers, the program gave us true responsibilities and game-changing assignments, working with executive management at the company. My experience at S+S gave me a variety of experiences, such as: public presentations to improve my public speaking, tracking NPS data to improve operations, and thorough data analysis measuring program success to drive better outcomes within the program. Since I majored in finance, the team also allowed me to help prepare financial statements for government agencies and drive QoQ improvements. The program’s ecosystem helped me build valuable connections both professionally and personally, learning more about San Antonio.

Pure Heart Foods

The Students + Startups program was an incredible experience! Not only did my intern add so much value and amaze me with her contributions, she became a resource I plan to continue using outside of the program. The community aspects of the program, such as the events and workshops, were hugely beneficial for me as a small business owner in meeting new, local connections that have already added value to my business.

My internship provided me with invaluable work place experience that I could not have gotten anywhere else and helped me to obtain my goal of going on to work at a big tech company.

FlashScan3D

My time with FlashScan3D built confidence in my skill sets of design, engineering, project management, etc. I look back fondly on my time there and with the S+S crew. I would not have the current job I have, not the startup intuition that I use in my own venture today were it not for S+S. Was a great experience – I learned a lot, met and worked with some very smart people. Received a significant amount of hands-on experience in the role under Chris Burney and was able to learn quite a bit about Angel Investing, due-diligence, and the San Antonio startup community at large.

The interns crushed it…The process is easy, the talent is high-quality and adaptable, and you can’t beat the price! We’ve continued to employ some of the interns over the year and will definitely be hiring more for years to come!

Alamo Angels

The most valuable experience I had was interacting with investors of these startups and watching their investments and commitment to the companies grow. My internship at S+S opened up an entirely different perspective to the startup community.

FAQ

All interns must live in San Antonio during the entire program. If you are remote or hybrid, we ask that you keep an open line of communication with daily check-ins.

You’re not committed to the program until you find the perfect candidate, and our team will work extremely hard to find you a great intern.

Ideally, juniors to master students. We accept applications from freshman students, but companies have preferred students to be more along in their studies (around their second and third year).

Yes, if your budget allows, and if you have a role for each individual intern.

It does depend on the company and its hiring needs, but we want to ensure that every intern has a high-impact experience.

We ask companies to stick to the rate. If you feel compelled, we recommend gift cards, paying for parking, or professional development classes!

It’s an annual event that we host, bringing all of the vetted candidates and company partners together for “speed interviews.” You interview with ~8 candidates, 10-minute interviews each. There’s networking before, there’s networking after, and we encourage interns to utilize this time to walk up to you if they wanted more time or didn’t get the chance to interview with you. It’s a mandatory event for our intern candidates and company partners. Our out-of-SA students will do their interviews via phone call.

As we’ve grown, companies are bringing out everything they’ve got to set themselves a part from other company partners. This means pull-up banners, tablecloths, candy, t-shirts, swag, etc. Use your imagination, and bring your A-game. You are selling your company to them just as much as they are selling themselves to you all.
